David N. LeCheminant

ARTIST

I have always been a hands-on maker and builder, attracted to form and fascinated by how smaller objects and processes can come together into something more substantial.

After earning a BA, I began my career in business, working in advertising, corporate marketing and communications.  After a decade, I took a sabbatical during which I re-engaged with art and never returned to my corporate career.

I divide my time between making art for commercial and private clients and for galleries. I am adept at working in different scales from large installations to personally-scaled work, and have developed several approaches that I use to create both free-standing and wall sculpture. This gives me many options when approaching new projects and keeps my process fresh.
My work is found in numerous corporate and private art collections throughout the US  as well as public art collections in the state of Utah. I have been a juror, curator and a co-founder of SLC’s first artist open studio tour, and throughout  my career have been featured in many solo, two-person and group shows in both galleries and museums.

I don’t have a “signature style”, per se, and approach all projects with fresh eyes. I mainly work in wood because it is versatile, expressive and sustainable. I combine ideas from nature, urban living and contemporary culture then use the language of form to distill this inspiration into something abstract and contemporary but familiar.
