Amrita Tandon
ARTIST
Amrita Tandon paints because there is nothing she would rather be doing. Her practice is what gets her up in the morning, energised by the possibilities each new day may bring.
Her work centres on the pleasure of seeing—on finding moments of quietude, reflection, and connection. Continuously exploring new ideas, her subject matter shifts as a response to the emotions and experiences that shape different stages of her life. She enjoys investigating the many facets of nature and humanity, from the mighty to the mundane, filtering them through her personal history. Rather than replicating what she observes, she reinterprets it through brushwork, colour, subject, and composition, guided by whatever sparks her curiosity.
Tandon resists being confined to any single style or theme, choosing instead to evolve continuously.
Her nomadic life has deeply influenced her artistic vision. Growing up across the vast and diverse landscapes of India—marked by extreme contrasts in people, culture, and language—she developed an early sensitivity to variety and nuance. She has since lived in vibrant cities including Tokyo, Dublin, Mumbai, Sydney, Singapore, and now Hong Kong, each contributing to the expansion of her creative horizons.
In recent years, she has been exploring what she calls “Personal Geographies”—memories, places, and experiences that map her ongoing journey. Her latest paintings have emerged from such introspection.
Tandon works predominantly in acrylic and oils while also making forays into pastels, cold wax medium, and colour pencil, embracing the possibilities offered by new materials.
Her artworks are held in private collections in Hong Kong, the USA, the UK, Canada, Singapore, Australia, and India.
