Alicia Gimeno is an artist who explores the meditative power of calligraphy, transforming the writing into an expressive gesture. Born in Barcelona in 1989 and trained in graphic design in Mexico, she was drawn early on to the movement of ink, the rhythm of brushstrokes.
Her discovery of Eastern calligraphy deepened this fascination, revealing a way of creating that is less about language and more about presence, energy, and the act of painting itself.
Her work embraces simplicity, using minimal colour to highlight the depth of each stroke. Inspired by botanical forms, Alicia’s abstract compositions reflect the organic patterns of nature, inviting the viewer into a space of stillness and contemplation.
Guided by Eastern philosophies, Alicia incorporates Wabi Sabi—the beauty of imperfection—and Ma, the power of negative space, into her creative process. Each piece is an exploration of Qì (氣), the vital energy that moves through all living things. Her art is not meant to be “read” in a traditional sense but rather felt, offering an intimate and immersive experience.
