Allan Gorman
ARTIST
Gorman’s paintings attempt to capture the magic that can be found in both observed and imaginary spaces. His compositions explore geometries, contrasts, and colors, hoping to channel the beautiful drama that can spark our curiosity and move our soul.
Allan Gorman’s art explores the details. hard edges, and intersections that invite the eye to journey through and beyond. His is a magical escapism in structures that both obstruct and reflect nature, trying to capture the audacity and wonder of these spaces.
This focus is often conveyed in formal, architectural compositions—devoid of animate objects—allowing the pure design elements to take center stage. The depicted spaces, though quiet and minimal, suggest lingering stories—the absence and the impact of what once was, or what could have been.
Growing up in the shadows of elevated trains and the vibrant streets of mid-20th century Brooklyn and Manhattan, his world was shaped by the grit of back alleys, statuesque concrete and glass skyscrapers, and avant-garde ideas that challenged the norms of fashion, dance, and cinema and society. The muted strains of a Miles Davis trumpet became the soundtrack, and modern art, bold design, and rebellion ignited a lifelong passion for the drama to be found in mysterious and unexpected places.
Working with oil paint and cold wax medium, Cimini builds layered surfaces where organic textures evolve within the restraint of geometric frameworks. Through this process, each piece develops its own emotional atmosphere—an interplay between deliberate structure and intuitive discovery. His color choices shift between carefully planned series and spontaneous, instinctive responses, reflecting his belief that color is a constantly unfolding mystery.
Running in Circles, Cimini’s most recent series, explores the interplay between curved and linear forms. Departing from his predominantly angular style, these paintings introduce circular and elliptical shapes that evoke motion, tension, and continuity. Created with oil and cold wax on Encaustiflex, a microfiber material made from recycled soda bottles, and mounted on cradled panels, the series invites quiet reflection through nuanced textures, layered color harmonies, and a shifting sense of spatial balance.
Gorman’s work has been exhibited in numerous museums, such as The Arnot Art Museum, Springfield Museum of Art, Lyman, Allyn Art Museum, Albany Museum of Art, and The State Museum of New Jersey; and in commercial galleries, including Anthony Brunelli Fine Arts, Howard Rehs Contemporary, Garvey|Simon NY, Nicole Longnecker Gallery, Ria Art Gallery, and, CK Contemporary in San Francisco.
A number of his paintings were included in a multi-venue museum exhibition of automobile and motorcycle art, touring 20 fine art museums throughout the USA from 2018 through 2025, and recently included in “URBES: Contemporary Landscapes” — an Invitational Exhibition at the MEAM Museum in Barcelona, Spain.
