Anna Maria Bellman

ARTIST

Slow down and observe the delicate relationship between material, form, and space.

Anna Maria Bellmann’s work is a reflection on simplicity, precision, and the quiet power of nature. Inspired by her experiences in Brazil’s favelas, she was struck by how little is needed to create joy—and how that same principle applies to art.

With only handmade paper and a blade, she carves intricate patterns of leaves, blossoms, and birds, transforming a seemingly delicate material into something striking and enduring.

Her process is both meticulous and organic, guided by the balance of symmetry and spontaneity. Influences from Japanese origami, calligraphy, and traditional woodcuts weave through her work, adding layers of meaning to each piece. The interplay of light and shadow gives her art a three-dimensional quality, where details emerge gradually, revealing depth beyond the surface.

Born in Starnberg, Germany, Bellmann grew up by Lake Starnberg, between Munich and the Alps. From an early age, she explored various artistic styles and techniques, drawn to the versatility and elegance of paper as a material—a fascination that continues to shape her artistic journey.

Anna Maria’s art invites stillness, encouraging the viewer to slow down and observe the delicate relationship between material, form, and space. Her pieces offer a quiet yet powerful presence, where simplicity reveals depth, and restraint gives way to beauty.
