Art in the Round: Shaping the Zürich Collection

At the time of construction, this was the largest building project in Switzerland. Artstory was contracted to build an art collection for the Hyatt Regency hotel and convention centre.

Artstory commissioned local artists for key locations, adding a local layer to the narrative. Interrogation of the architectural brief identified a desire for ‘Swissness’ – a celebration of minimalism and precision. We presented directly to the client on site, which set the grounds for a close working relationship.

Part of the brief was to create ‘display cabinets’ of native Swiss plant species with a unique one in each of the seventeen meeting rooms. Our team procured plants throughout the year to be able to photograph them at their peak.

The artwork installations are hugely varied. Some were created solely in our studios and others in collaboration with others. One example is Etienne Krähenbühl’s spherical Bing Bang sculpture, which hangs within a cuboid open framework designed and built by Artstory. We installed this piece with the artist himself.
